Forgiveness: The Real Deal

Jesus Christ died on the Cross to pay the sin debt for the entire world, so God put forgiveness “on the table” – and it’s available. When we really believe in forgiveness, we forgive others just as we have been forgiven in Christ (Eph 4:32). This diagnostic helps uncover hidden heart attitudes that can hold you back from your full potential in Christ.

Signs of Incomplete or False Forgiveness:
_ There are some people I just cannot forgive.
_ I’ve forgiven ______ but I’m still grieved by what happened.
_ When I think about victims of sin, I feel depressed or angry.
_ I want perpetrators to pay for what they have done.
_ I forgive ______ because he/she had a hard childhood.
_ I don’t want to punish _______; I’m waiting for God to punish.
_ I won’t be able to forgive until ______ really repents.
_ I can’t forgive until I understand why he/she did that.
_ I know I’ve sinned, but I’m much better than some people.
_ I can’t forgive anyone who hurts my friends or family.
_ I forgive _______ because what he/she did wasn’t that bad.
_ I might forgive ______ eventually; I just want more time.

True forgiveness is based entirely on the Cross. (Note that Christ did much more than we realized. To truly embrace forgiveness, we need all of Christ and all Christ accomplished.)

Signs of True Forgiveness:
_ I rejoice in the truth that God loves both victims and perpetrators.
_ I believe God’s love can completely forgive and re-create sinners.
_ I always forgive, because I know how much I have been forgiven.
_ When I think about victims of sin, I feel compassion for them.
_ When I think about victims of sin, I trust God’s promises for them.
_ I forgive the mistreatment, neglect, and lack of caring from others.
_ God has forgiven me; I feel free of guilt, blame, and condemnation.
_ I feel totally and absolutely forgiven for everything in my past.
_ I feel cleansed of defilement and the shame of all my past sins.

“Signs of True Forgiveness” are the result of awakening to all of Christ. Our studies can dramatically accelerate this process.
